FAQ

Q. What is Fresh Sliced News?
A. Fresh Sliced News is a simple desktop application that lets you create a personalized newspaper from your favorite news sites, blogs, and other sources of information on the web.  It's free to download and it works on Mac, PC, or Linux.  Set your paper up once, and every time you launch the Fresh Sliced News reader, you'll get an up-to-the-minute paper, created just for you. You save time on browsing and enjoy reading again.

Q. Why do some stories appear bigger than others in my personalized newspaper?
A. In a traditional newspaper, prominence communicates the importance of a particular story. We want to show you what's most important too, based on the reaction stories are getting on the Internet and the relevance we think they have to you based on your prior reading. If, for example, you add the Food section to your personalized Fresh Sliced Newspaper and keep reading stories about wine, wine stories will begin to appear more prominently. We're still working out the nuts and bolts of this feature, so let us know how it works for you.

Q. Is the content in my personalized newspaper created by Fresh Sliced News?
A. None of the content you read with Fresh Sliced News is stored or provided by us. Our application communicates from your desktop directly to content providers who have decided to make their content available in what is known as RSS format. (Most have.) We just present the news overviews, in a combination from all the sources you already like, in a new, more visual and easy-to-follow format. When you click to see a complete story, you'll see it in our embedded browser, exactly as it would appear on its original website.

Q. Why do some of the buttons in the application not work?
A. The application available for download right now is the very first version of the Fresh Sliced News reader. We're hard at work building a faster, better version for our 1.0 release, with additional features and functionality. We'd love your thoughts, comments, and questions as we strive to make keeping up to date with news on the web a better and more enjoyable experience.
